Blog Stats for July

I’m no stranger to being a nerd for statistics, especially when it comes to blogging. Being that I’ve only had this blog running for a month, and it’s the first day of the next month, I had the brilliant(?) idea to keep track of my statistics. Here’s the first month ever:

Almost 300 pageviews in the first month ain’t too shabby! I was hoping for 1,000 in the first month but since I slacked off on my posting (more on that below), I can’t really complain. Pretty excited for so many pageviews in the first month, still!

Also, I didn’t take a screenshot of this, but my first Alexa.com rank was 28,682,322. And today it’s:Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 6.06.27 PM

HOLY MOLY. Talk about a jump! Now in all fairness I don’t really think Alexa is the benchmark for popularity of a website, but I like to see how my sites move up (or down, ugh) on it throughout the month as it gives me a little insight on what’s working and what isn’t.

Stats:

What Worked

Keyword research – I knew that I wanted to hit the ground running with this blog, because I was so excited about the entire process with buying and renovating our first home, so I researched a ton of keywords (the phrases people were searching for) and was able to make sure the first posts here were ones that were in demand.

Bulk Scheduling – I mean this as more of a schedule for creation. Doing all of the featured images first for a week, then writing all of the posts as opposed to writing 1 post and creating 1 featured image. Doing tasks in bulk helped me focus my time and save some effort.

What Didn’t

My original plan – I wanted to start this blog off with a bang so planned to do 3 posts a day (so 93 posts total). Oops.

The Domain – Err….looks like we won’t be buying a beige house, but a blue one. Eh…as we say in NYC whaddyagonnado

Goals for August:

Begin adding more DIY and personal posts – This one is going to be a bit of a challenge for me since we haven’t moved into the house yet (er…still waiting on the closing!). Our first trip back to the house, assuming we close this month, will be the 1st weekend of September so I can’t really show any new DIY posts thanks to the tiny world of Brooklyn apartments leaving little room to spray paint…but I’ve got some ideas.

Get the mailing list up – This is one of the critical missteps, as I know how important a mailing list can be! My goal is to get some amazing stuff up and running for newsletter subscribers by the end of the month.

Get a better social media schedule – I need to really hunker down on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. It’s one of those thing that keeps getting pushed down the list

Get 3 “backup” posts – My goal is to have a queue of content for “emergency” situations, like during the move or when Wine Time comes a little too early!
