So, let’s dive right in! I decided to make this moon phase clock because, honestly, I just love the mystical and ethereal vibe it brings to a space. Plus, who doesn’t love a good DIY project, am I right? Now, I have to be upfront about one thing – the clock mechanism I used wasn’t exactly my top pick, but hey, sometimes you have to work with what you have, right?

Now, the fun part – mixing the resin. I went for a black alcohol ink as the base and added these stunning chameleon mica powders. I wanted to create a dark, universe-like look, and these powders were just perfect for that. I even did a whole video testing out these mica powders, and let me tell you, they are pretty cool. If you’re interested in checking out the process, I got you covered with a link to that video.

Oh, and I have to share – I got these amazing mica powders and the mold from AliExpress. Seriously, it’s like a goldmine for unique craft supplies. And let’s take a moment to appreciate the joy of swirling the colors in the resin. Is it just me, or is there something so satisfying about seeing the patterns come to life?

Speaking of the mold, let me tell you about the one I used. It’s thick and sturdy, plus it allows you to have your moon phases just the way you want them. Whether it’s the new moon, waxing moon, full moon, or waning moon, you get to decide. I love that kind of flexibility and creative control, don’t you?

Now, here comes the exciting part – demolding the resin. I’ll admit, seeing the glitter in the resin got me hyped because it meant that my vision was coming to life. And to my delight, it turned out exactly how I imagined! The blue and purple glitters, the chameleon-like shifting – it was all there, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

But, like with any DIY project, sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. I noticed some spots where I missed with the mica powder, so I reached for my trusty metallic paint pen to fill in the phases of the moon. Don’t worry, though, if you’re thinking of selling your creation, sealing it with UV resin might be a good idea to ensure everything stays in place.
After letting the paint dry, it was time to drill a hole for the clock mechanism. Now, I have to confess, I should have used a bigger drill for this, but hey, we work with what we’ve got, right? And for hanging the clock, I opted for a picture hanging kit, using good ol’ Gorilla Glue for added sturdiness and flexibility during the drying process.

Now, let’s talk about the clock mechanism. I have to be real with you – it’s not exactly the best one out there. In fact, I struggled a bit to figure out the order for installing the arms, and it took a few tries. But hey, in the end, it got the job done, and now it’s up on my wall, ticking away and looking magical.
