Hey crafty friends! It’s Megan, and I’m so excited to share with you the journey I went on to create a DIY resin snowflake wreath. Let me just say, this project was a rollercoaster ride. It took some unexpected turns, but in the end, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty details and the ups and downs of this crafting adventure.

First things first, let’s talk about the molds I used for the snowflakes. I found these ornament molds on AliExpress, and they looked absolutely beautiful. However, let me tell you, they were a bit trickier to work with than I had anticipated.

These molds have lots of tiny nooks and crannies, making it quite challenging to prevent air pockets from forming in the resin. I had to take my time and be super patient to ensure that the snowflakes turned out as perfect as I envisioned.
Now, the process of getting the resin snowflakes out of the molds was no walk in the park. These delicate snowflakes were sharp and pointy, and it required some serious strength to free them from the molds. I definitely got a workout from that part of the project!
Originally, I had envisioned a much larger wreath with four snowflakes in four different colors, creating a beautiful ombre effect. I used UV resin with various shades of blue alcohol ink and a silver metallic ink. The plan was to create this stunning, winter wonderland-inspired wreath that would add a pop of color to any space.

However, as I started putting everything together, I realized that the wreath frame I had initially purchased was not going to work for this project. It was just too concave to allow the snowflakes to attach securely. Sometimes, you just have to think on your feet and get creative with what you have on hand. I ended up using a set of silicone cake molds to create a base for the wreath, and the improvisation paid off in the end.

When it came to the resin for the wreath base, I decided to stick with UV resin, although looking back, I think two-part resin might have been a better option for an opaque mold. But you know how it is when you’re in the crafting zone – sometimes you just go with what you have on hand and make it work.
One of the most challenging parts of this project was getting the UV resin to dry in the opaque mold. I tried using a handheld UV light, but it just wasn’t cutting it. After some trial and error, I ended up setting the UV light over the resin and drying it in quadrants. It was a bit of a process, but I was determined to get it right.
When it was finally time to see if the resin had dried according to plan, I encountered a small hiccup – some leakage through the mold. But hey, I embraced the imperfections and decided to work with what I had. After a little trimming and some adjustments, I was ready to arrange the snowflakes on the wreath base.

As I began arranging the snowflakes, I had a bit of a “jazz” moment – you know, where you just go with the flow and see what happens. Despite the unexpected twists and turns, the end result was a unique and eye-catching snowflake wreath that I was proud of. I even added some confetti I found at the dollar store to give it an extra touch of sparkle. Sure, it may not have been what I initially envisioned, but sometimes, the most beautiful creations come from embracing the unexpected.
In the end, I ended up using the smaller ornaments as sun catchers or tree ornaments, and they turned out just as lovely! I even added a larger ornament in the middle, creating a whimsical dangling centerpiece. Sure, the big star at the top was a little off-center, but hey, that’s the beauty of handmade crafts – they have a charm all their own.

So, there you have it – my DIY resin snowflake wreath adventure. It may not have gone exactly as planned, but that’s the thing about crafting – it’s all about the journey and embracing the unexpected. I hope this post inspires you to get creative and roll with the punches when your crafting projects take an unexpected turn. Thanks for joining me on this wild ride, and I can’t wait to see you in the next video! Happy crafting, everyone!
